What is "Bonus Hunting (AKA Bonus Whoring)?

Bonus whoring means signing up at many poker sites in order to collect the bonuses they offer. Just about every online poker room offers some sort of signup bonus. This means that a player with a small bank roll, some skill and a bit of luck can use the bonuses offered to build their bank roll. In fact, there are even some online poker rooms that will give you a small, but real bank roll to start out with.

Bonus whoring is generally a low risk way of building up to playing the higher limit games. Because (in theory) you are starting out with a small amount of money, it will take more patience than skill. Most likely, you will be playing in the low limit games, which means if you play tight, solid poker, you should end up making money.

Bonus whoring is not for everyone. Bonus whoring is for the player who has a small bankroll and wants the extra money from the bonus to build that bankroll so that they can play in the higher dollar, more profitable games. In order to be effective, you need play lots and lots of hands. So if you have a bankroll of $100, deposit it at Nine Poker taking advantage of their 150% bonus up to $150. You could effectively play two $.25/$.50 tables at a time. If you find two decent tables, you'll be playing about 120 hands/hour and clearing the bonus should not take you too long. However if you normally play in the higher dollar games your actual dollars/hour would go down if you switch to the lower limit games in order to clear a bonus.
